The NASA Puerto Rico Space Grant Fellowships and Scholarships Program is accepting applications for the 2025-2026 academic year (subject to availability of funds):

The Puerto Rico Space Grant Fellowships and Scholarships Program fosters the participation of college students inspired to do research that will contribute to NASA’s missions of exploration.  Open across a variety of research fields, students in Puerto Rico have the opportunity to create and perform their own research plan with an advisor. If you’re currently enrolled in college as an undergrad or graduate student and want to contribute solutions to NASA’s challenges, then this opportunity is for you!

Requirements:

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen
  • Have a minimum GPA of 3.0
  • Enrolled in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics)

  • Academic progress according to schedule
  • Curriculum Vitae of 1-2 pages (including peer-reviewed publications, proceedings, and presentations in local, national, and international conferences)
  • Two letters of recommendation (one from the research advisor/mentor)
  • Detailed Research Plan (3-5 pages) signed by applicant and research advisor.

The research plan must contain the following:

  • Title and Summary
  • Goals and Objectives
  • Relevance to NASA according to the NASA Technology Taxonomy and/or NASA Mission Directorates
  • Rationale
  • Work Plan
  • Collaborations with NASA Centers and NASA Mission Directorates
  • Milestones and Timeline for Aug 2025 – May 2026
  • References Cited (no page limit)

Subject to availability of funds:

Selected students will receive a stipend for the August 2025 - May 2026 academic year, as follows:

TO: The Puerto Rico Scientific Community

RE: FY25 NASA EPSCoR International Space Station Flight Opportunity

It is a pleasure to notify the Puerto Rico Scientific Community about the 2025 NASA EPSCoR International Space Station (ISS) Flight Opportunity (announcement number NNH25ZHA001C-EPSCORISS).

This Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) is for projects that are mature enough to develop a microgravity research payload to be sent to the International Space Station (ISS). Each selected NASA EPSCoR flight project shall perform scientific and/or technical research in areas that support NASA’s strategic research and technology development priorities. Proposals shall emphasize how a flight in microgravity will influence/improve the results/quality of any ground-based research.

Each funded NASA EPSCoR proposal is expected to establish research activities that will make significant contributions to the strategic research and technology development priorities of one or more of NASA’s Mission Directorates, and contribute to the overall research infrastructure, science and technology capabilities, higher education, and economic development of Puerto Rico.

Utilization of the ISS will further strengthen the relationships between NASA and Puerto Rico in the pursuit of national priorities for the advancement of science. This use of the ISS will also open new paths for Puerto Rico to compete for larger spaceflight research projects.

The NOFO specifies the following:
 • Each EPSCoR jurisdiction can submit ONE proposal.
 • The maximum funding request per proposal is $150,000.
 • There is no cost share requirement.

Interested research teams from Higher Education Institutions in Puerto Rico are invited to submit their PREPROPOSALS to the PR NASA EPSCoR Office. The preproposals will be evaluated by a review panel to determine the best candidate project to be developed into a full-fledged proposal to be submitted to NASA.

Preproposal Components: Cover Page; Project Summary (1 pg); Goals, Objectives, and Anticipated Results (1 pg); Project Description (5 pg), including: Intrinsic Merit of Microgravity Experiment, Feasibility, Time to Flight, Crew Time Requirements, Power Requirements, Physical Space Requirements; Curriculum Vitae of PI and Co-Is (2 pg each); Summary Budget (1 pg).

Submission: Preproposals are due by 5:00 PM on Friday, June 20, 2025 via Submittable.
